Accomplishments

In the digital age, students have access to information and resources 24 hours a day at the click of a mouse or with a tap on a tablet or phone. As an educator and librarian, it is my responsiblity to ensure that students learn to find and to use appropriate and reliable resources ethically and responsibly. I have created a library website to provide student and teacher access to curated resources for learning and information, to literature for both reading for pleasure and for classroom reading, and to Web 2.0 tools to use for collaboration, demonstrating understanding, and sharing knowledge. The library website also encourages community interest and involvement in the library through the online events calendar, blog, book suggestion form, donation form, and volunteer sign-up. I have created data based lesson plans to teach students literacy skills, research skills, and website evaluation, and pathfinders to scaffold students' ability to find appropriate and reliable print, nonprint, and digital sources of information. To ensure that students become 21st century learners, it is not enough to provide equitable access to information, but we must also ensure that students become knowledgeable and discriminating consumers and producers of information as well. As a computer resources teacher, I have years of experience creating websites and pathfinders, using Web 2.0 tools with students and teachers, and working with the school community to ensure that everyone understands the responsibilities of digital citizenship.
