Accomplishments

Multiple studies confirm that certified school librarians and well-run school libraries support students in academic achievement, promote lifelong learning, teach 21st century skills, improve reading ability, and are linked to higher student test scores. Librarians must use this information to advocate for supporting and enhancing library services for all students and teachers. As part of my school librarianship program, I have gained experience in becoming a library advocate and leader through creating professional development opportunities for teachers; promoting library programs, services, and resources by designing a library website and brochure; and by attending state and regional library assocation conferences to learn from and network with other library and literacy professionals. As I move forward in my career as a school librarian, I will continue to advocate for library programs by demonstrating to all library stakeholders the crucial role of the school library in student success; to lead by becoming involved in state and local library organizations; to seek out opportunties for my own professional growth as a teacher librarian; and to continue to collaborate with teachers and students to enhance the role of the school library in supporting the mission of the school.
